Maguindanao Under Stae of Emergency due to the bizarre massacre!
Maguindanao , Sultan Kudarat provinces, and Cotabato City, were placed under a state of emergency. President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo issued the order on Tuesday, November 24, 2009.
A gruesome massacre on the wife of Maguindanao Vice Mayor Datu Ismail “Toto” Mangudadatu and her convoy happened on Monday, November 23, 2009. At least 57 people, including 12 journalists, in the area were found dead.
They were attacked by about 100 men on their way to Shariff Aguak town to file the certificate of candidacy (COC) of Toto, who intends to run for governor in the province.
The Mangudadatus blamed the killings on their political rival, the Ampatuan political clan.
Thee presence of many journalist who wanted to have a scoop of the major news as the Ampatuan family has not been challenged politically in the province.
The provincial capital Shariff Aguak is known to be Ampatuan territory. Toto sent his female relatives to file for COC together with journalists. Toto believed that they will not hurt women because of their Islamic tradition. But, they were dead wrong.
